In Hinduism, the trio of Brhama , Vishnu(Narayan or Hari) and Mahesh(Mahadev, Shiv/Shankar) , also known as Tridevs responssible for the world. In which Brahma is creator of whole universe, Vishnu is one who is responsible for maintaining it; while shiv is destroyer(simply as anything which is created, have tobe lost in time; for the ‘change’, one of the greatest truth.)
So, Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu Guru Devo Maheshwaro,[Guru{simply translated as teacher, but has vast meaning beyond that, such as ‘Guide of life’} is Brahma, Guru is Vishnu and Guru is also Maheshwar[maha{greatest}+ishwar{God}=God of the gods, Shiva). Simply Guru is 3 in 1 Brahma ,Vishnu, and Mahesh for decipal.
In student’s life, Guru plays major role , as he is creator, generally not birth giver, but knowledge giver, which is as important as life. He / she is also maintainer because he or she is direct or indirect source of that solutions which are remedies for pains in life. He is also a destroyer of darkness in the life of student.
So finally this shlok(verse) is complets itself as ‘Guru Sakshat Parabrahma Tasmai shree Guravai Nama’( Guru is actual ‘ great original element’(PARABRHMHA), So Homage for Guru). [note : Brahma(god) and Parabrahma are completely diffrent concepts].
Guru in Hinduism is broadly defined from various scholars. Some of them told that ‘anything which gives you small amount of knowledge is Guru’ So, Dattatreya, another mythycal God who is combination of trio Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh had 24 Gurus which included living amd non lving objects such as river and stones( for its helping nature and rigidity respectively) Also mother is considered as first Guru who give us first knowledge of world .
